βThe History of Palasa Cashew :
βPalasa, located in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, is renowned as the "Cashew City" of the state.
βOrigins (1940s - 1950s): The cashew industry in Palasa began roughly 70 to 80 years ago. While the Portuguese introduced cashews to India, locals in Palasa realized the region’s red soil and climate were perfect for high-quality cultivation.
βIndustrial Growth: What started as small, home-based processing units (cottage industry) rapidly grew into a massive industrial hub. By the 1970s, it became the primary livelihood for the region.
βThe Unique Taste: Palasa cashews are famous for their distinct sweetness and longer shelf life. This is largely attributed to the traditional "Drum Roasting" method used here, which differs from the steam-boiling method used in other parts of the world.
βCurrent Status: Today, Palasa has hundreds of processing units. It is a major export hub, often referred to as the "White Gold" of Andhra Pradesh, shipping high-grade cashews across India and abroad.
